DoBem Wearable

DoBem, a Brazilian brand known for its organic juices and energy bars, has this cool mission to 'simplify people's lives and make their bodies healthier.' Back in 2014, they teamed up with Huge to launch Brazil's first wearable: a smartband for tracking physical activity and sleep. The challenge with the project were its constraints: the hardware manufacturer's API dictated the features, leaving us only the app's flow and color scheme to play with.

Initially, this felt a bit restricting, but after chatting with personal trainers and runners, we realized even a few, thoughtful changes could be impactful both for usability and behavioral change. For instance, we noticed that users, especially runners, found it hard to focus on tiny UI details when tired. Our solution: we let the entire app's background color be the UI. The full screen would give feedback about the workout, not just tiny elements. The physical tracker would change the app's color from 'red=low activity' to 'blue=goal reached.' This way, users could get a quick read on their progress, even during their exercise.
